MgO, an Effective Adsorbent for Removing SO2 Pollutants from Industrial Chimneys

 | Post date: 2021/12/14 |
Dr. Ali Bakhshi Ani is a PhD student in the department of Chemical Engineering, Amirkabir University of Technology and implementer of the project "Experimental study and kinetic modeling of SO2 reaction with magnesium oxide adsorbent using random cavity model”.
"Finding new applications for minerals will create more added value in the country's mineral industry chain," he said. In addition, because of SO2 gas reaction with MgO adsorbent, Magnesium Sulfate (MgSO4) is produced as a by-product (as a new method) which is widely used in agriculture. The production of magnesium sulfate increases the economic efficiency of the process of absorption of sulfur dioxide by magnesium oxide. A comprehensive study of the possibility of using MgO as an effective adsorbent of SO2 in the dry waste process has been done for the first time in this study.
The supervisor of this project is Dr. Habib Al-Ebrahim, a faculty member of the department of Chemical Engineering.
