Publication of the book "Liver Bioengineering: Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, Drug Delivery, and Microfluidic Systems"
The book " Liver Bioengineering: Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, Drug Delivery, and Microfluidic Systems" edited by Dr. Mehran Soulati Heshjin, Ms. Elnaz Sadat Mirdemadi, Mr. Nima Zakeri, Mr. Ehsanollah Moradi, and Ms. Sarina Mokhtari has been published by the publication of Amirkabir University of Technology.
The liver is the second largest organ in the body after the skin and the largest gland in the human body, weighing around 1400 to 1600 grams in adults. The liver is a complex organ with various functions that play a vital role in the synthesis, metabolism, storage, detoxification, and elimination of many biochemical compounds in the body and through the production and secretion of bile, it plays a fundamental role in the digestion and absorption of fats. Almost all vital functions of the human body somehow depend on the liver's performance. Therefore, it is not surprising that liver failures can seriously affect other vital functions of the body. The treatment of liver diseases is often very challenging and in advanced stages, there is no effective treatment for it.
The growth of liver-related diseases in Iran has been increasing in recent decades. Therefore, doctors and engineers strive to make use of all scientific and technological capacities in this field. For those working in the field of biomedical engineering, especially biomaterials and tissue engineering, this is a specialized and ethical call that cannot be ignored.
This book can be used as educational material in courses such as basics of tissue engineering, synthesis and fabrication methods of scaffolds, drug delivery systems, stem cell engineering, micro/nano electromechanical systems in undergraduate and graduate degrees in related fields.
