The head of the Exceptional Talents and Olympiads Office at Amirkabir University of Technology announced the provision of 9 special services for outstanding students at the university, stating: "Outstanding students can study for their master's and doctoral degrees without entrance exams, be admitted through a professor-centered approach without entrance exams for graduate studies, study in two fields, take an additional 20 credits from another major, change their major, and access various financial and welfare services."
According to the public relations office of Amirkabir University of Technology, Dr. Iman Sharifi provided a history of the university during a seminar introducing the engineering disciplines, saying: "The university was initially established in 1928 as the 'Higher Technical Art School' in collaboration with the Germans and later became Tehran Polytechnic in 1957 through the merger of the 'Higher Art School' and the 'Institute of Engineering and Construction' with UNESCO's assistance."
He emphasized that in 1957, the first group of students was accepted through an internal exam, and from 1958, Tehran Polytechnic officially began its educational activities with five engineering majors: Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Textile Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Civil Engineering.
This professor at Amirkabir University of Technology stated that over time, the university has experienced significant quantitative and qualitative growth, to the point where it is now considered the mother of industrial universities in the country. In fact, with over half a century of outstanding activity, Amirkabir University of Technology has managed to secure a prominent position among research and scientific centers through the development of educational, research, and student activities.
Dr. Sharifi highlighted the most important services offered by Amirkabir University of Technology to outstanding students, adding: "The possibility for outstanding students to study for their master's and doctoral degrees without entrance exams, the admission of outstanding students through a professor-centered approach without entrance exams for master's and doctoral programs, the opportunity to study in two fields, the ability to take an additional 20 credits from another major, and the option to change majors are among the most significant of these facilities."
According to him, the distinctive welfare services for outstanding and Olympiad students include a sports hall, dining facilities, dormitories, internet access, vouchers, loans, and a scholarship of 14.5 million tomans per year (up to 57 million tomans during their studies) for students ranked below 200 in the entrance exam and gold medalists in student Olympiads. Additionally, 10 million tomans in scholarships per year are provided for student Olympiad participants, and another 10 million tomans for those entering the master's program. These are among the benefits for top-ranking and exceptional talents at Amirkabir University of Technology.
Sharifi specified the fields of study that have seen major changes from 2021 to 2023, noting that 38 students switched to Computer Science, 9 to Computer Engineering, 9 to Mechanical Engineering, 4 to Biomedical Engineering, and finally, 2 to Electrical Engineering during these two years.
This professor at Amirkabir University of Technology also added that the university has established 19 scientific hubs as part of its extensive scientific, research, and investigative activities, leveraging its existing potential and capabilities.
The head of the Exceptional Talents and Olympiads Office at Amirkabir University of Technology emphasized that the university's library and document centers are among the largest technical and engineering libraries in Iran, considered one of the richest university libraries in the field of basic sciences and engineering in the region. This library includes a central library and 16 branch libraries in Tehran and Bandar Abbas, catering to the study needs of its visitors through books, journals, articles, CDs, and research databases.
Regarding the sports facilities at Amirkabir University of Technology, Sharifi mentioned: "The university has a swimming pool, a grass field, a multipurpose hall, and a sports complex that includes a karate hall, table tennis hall, women's gym, men's gym, fencing hall, and a table tennis hall."
He noted that the multipurpose hall is one of the most popular facilities on campus, equipped with changing rooms and restrooms. This hall is used for training and competitions in various sports such as futsal, volleyball, basketball, badminton, and handball.
