The book "Reducing Landfill Gas Emissions," translated by Ms. Seyedeh Fatemeh Seyedali Pour and Dr. Taghi Ebadi and Mr. Nima Ranjbar Malidareh, has been published by Amirkabir University Press.
The improvement of human living standards due to economic growth has led to a rapid increase in urban waste production. Among the various methods for the final disposal of solid waste, sanitary landfill methods have been widely adopted around the world. Landfilling is the oldest and simplest form of waste disposal. Over the centuries, this process has undergone significant changes due to its serious environmental threats, transitioning from filling natural reservoirs or excavations created by humans to engineering projects designed with a proper perspective to reduce environmental impacts. However, waste disposal still has negative effects on water, air, and soil, creating risks at both local and global levels. Landfills occupy vast areas of land that cannot be used for other purposes for a long time. Additionally, they pose a long-term threat to public health and safety.
This book presents various ways to mitigate the negative effects of landfilling on the environment. The author's goal is to highlight the main pathways for developing methods to reduce the impacts of landfills on the environment that have emerged in different parts of the world.
