The chancellor of Amirkabir University of Technology stated that documents, approvals, and agreements related to the establishment of an innovation zone will be received in the next two weeks, and added: "We are pursuing the launch of the university's science and technology park in the two countries of Iraq and Oman."
According to the Public Relations office of Amirkabir University of Technology, Dr. Alireza Rahai emphasized during the ceremony for the appreciation and introduction of the president of the university's science and technology park that Amirkabir University of Technology, with its 70 years of history, has long aimed at education and subsequently education and research as its primary goals, successfully training over 40,000 individuals.
He continued, "After we managed to pass from the first and second generation of universities at Amirkabir University of Technology and reach higher generations, naturally, the development of technology, innovation, the creation of knowledge-based companies, and issues related to commercialization became part of the university's goals. It was with these goals that the establishment of the science and technology park and university growth centers was proposed."
The chancellor noted that the university's science and technology park is younger compared to parks of other universities in the country. He mentioned that despite all the advantages of Amirkabir University of Technology being located in the city center and near important economic centers, it also has its specific limitations.
Dr. Rahai emphasized that given the age of the science and technology park at Amirkabir University of Technology, it has achieved significant successes. "We started our activities from a building beside the street, and gradually these buildings were expanded. With participatory discussions, the land of Shahriar University was employed for the park, and this development process will continue."
The chancellor further stated, "Thus, the park of this university has been placed on the track of development, achieving considerable progress. At the current stages, issues related to innovation have also been raised. For about six months, we have made special efforts to launch this zone."
Rahai reiterated, "We hope to receive three approvals from the Tehran Municipality for the establishment of the innovation zone at Amirkabir University of Technology by the next week. The Scientific Vice Presidency of the Presidency has also expressed readiness to support this zone. The approval for this zone has been received from the relevant centers. In the next two weeks, we will also receive the documents, approvals, and agreements related to the innovation zone. Other centers have also pledged their support for this zone so that the development process is not halted due to financial issues."
This professor at Amirkabir University of Technology stated that the rapid workflow of establishing the university's science and technology park is of great importance. "Overall, the art of management in conducting work quickly by a small group is vital. Fortunately, this art exists at the university."
Dr. Rahai continued: In the discussion of the innovation zone at Amirkabir University of Technology, establishing national and international connections is crucial and needs to be developed. We need to open a new set for forming these connections.
According to him, with the efforts of the International Affairs Office at Amirkabir University of Technology, the establishment of the park in Oman is being pursued. The necessary permissions have also been obtained. We have coordinated with a foreign partner we have in that country, and a delegation will travel to Oman in the next two weeks. In fact, the program's framework has been agreed upon, and the area and land allocated for this purpose in Oman will be visited.
The chancellor of Amirkabir University of Technology added: Oman should be viewed as a gateway to connect with various neighboring countries in terms of communication, product transfer, and knowledge-based activities.
He expressed hope that we could establish this park in other countries such as Iraq as well. I believe that the joint conference we have with Iraq next month will be helpful in this regard.
The chancellor emphasized that this university cooperates scientifically with at least 15 scientific centers in Iraq, and we have signed memorandums of understanding. I hope we can pursue our scientific development program more cohesively with these centers.
He stated: About two months ago, positive and new demands were created for Dr. Fasi, the president of the science and technology park at Amirkabir University of Technology, which resulted in his announcement that he could not continue his work in the park section. However, the condition for accepting his resignation was that he would remain on the park council so that we could benefit from his experience.
He added: Dr. Alireza Babazadeh, the new president of the science and technology park at Amirkabir University of Technology, is a faculty member who has been active in various fields, especially in the petrochemical industry, and has accomplished great works. He has been involved in the development of knowledge-based units in the country and Tehran. I hope he can help continue the development of the park with greater strength. In fact, the path opened in the country regarding the development of the knowledge-based economy and industry should be pursued with the help of all faculty members.
Export capacity is being created in Oman for member companies of the Amirkabir park.
The president of the Amirkabir University of Technology science park announced the creation of sales and export capacities for knowledge-based products from the park in Oman.
According to the Public Relations Office of Amirkabir University of Technology, Dr. Alireza Babazadeh expressed hope that, with everyone's cooperation, the path initiated in the park will continue better than before, stating that starting projects is always challenging and often goes unnoticed. He acknowledged Dr. Fasihee's significant efforts to lay the groundwork for the park.
He mentioned the establishment of an innovation zone as one of the new programs of this period, adding that the innovation zone at Amirkabir University of Technology has a high advantage due to its unique location and proximity to many executive agencies and organizations related to industry and the economy. He expressed hope that through effective planning and follow-up, they would be able to fully utilize the benefits of this location.
He also noted physical development of the park as another of his plans, stating that the park’s buildings will be developed in partnership with the private sector. Simultaneously, the legal capacity and organizational structure of the park must be increased while maintaining agility, by identifying the park in the Ministry of Science as a developing park.
Dr. Babazadeh identified creating specialized hubs in the park as another program, reminding that the expectation in the country, in addition to the park's role in the economy and wealth generation, is that the parks should operate in a problem-solving manner, thus requiring the establishment of specialized hubs within the parks.
The new president of the science park at Amirkabir University of Technology highlighted the university's advantages in most technical and engineering fields, especially in areas related to energy, oil, petrochemicals, polymers, and materials processing, with a focus on utilizing leading technologies, including artificial intelligence. He mentioned that utilizing the legal capacities for knowledge-based production leaps is another program, specifically considering the use of tax credits for companies.
He pointed out that the share of the knowledge-based economy from the overall economy is minimal, stating that while some companies have produced products, the economy won't truly thrive until they penetrate international markets. He emphasized having a serious plan to achieve this goal. The entry of knowledge-based products and technology services into international markets and upgrading products to a competitive standard through specialized consulting in marketing, sales, financing, and banking services will be central programs of the park. In this regard, agreements have been made to establish a park and exhibition for displaying products in Oman as a bridge to markets in Africa, Europe, and East Asia.
Development of the innovation zone at Amirkabir University of Technology
In this ceremony, Dr. Seyed Farhang Fasihee, the former president of the Amirkabir University of Technology park, presented a report on the performance of this center, stating: The university's growth center was established in 1382, and growth centers were just beginning to develop in the country at that time. This center was active as a growth center until 1400.
He added: The difference between a growth center and technology parks is that a growth center is a supportive entity, while a technology park is considered a financial, economic, and social entity. The university's growth center had grown to the point where it had the potential to become a park.
Dr. Fasihee emphasized that for this center to have the functions of a technology park, it needed prerequisites such as a charter and decree, as well as an independent structure. Efforts to create legal underpinnings were made starting in the summer of 1401, and within two months, the Amirkabir University of Technology park was successfully established.
The former president of the Amirkabir University of Technology park noted that expanding the geographical area of the park was another initiative, with joint campuses established with Payame Noor University and the Arj Industrial Group. Additionally, some joint growth centers with private sectors were developed, and several companies have settled and become active in these centers.
He highlighted the membership of large companies in the park as another accomplishment and continued: We planned to establish the Amirkabir Innovation Zone, as these zones greatly influence the establishment of organizations within the park. According to the agreement reached, this zone is bounded to the west by Vasal Street, to the north by Fatemi and Motahhari Streets, to the east by Modarres Highway and Mofatteh Street, and to the south by Enqelab Street.
Dr. Fasihee, referring to the financial resources of this park, added: The government budget in 1401 was 1.7 billion tomans, with around less than 2 billion tomans generated from rental income. We refined these revenues through several strategies and estimated about 30 billion tomans in income for the current year.
He recalled the sales volume of technological products from this park, stating: We activated legal privileges for companies to sell their products, and several contracts have been signed. Additionally, we developed the value-added tax, which is one of the opportunities provided by the knowledge-based production leap law, and it can be a good source of income for companies.
Dr. Fasihee added: The university park is classified as a newly established park by the Ministry of Science since its charter was two years ago, but the volume of contracts in this park indicates it is a developing park. In this regard, we have submitted all documents required to transition the park from newly established to developing status.
He stated that with the strategies we have adopted, member units do not have issues with financing and continued: We have a complete university innovation ecosystem at our disposal.
