The chancellor of Amirkabir University of Technology emphasized the necessity of establishing a council in the Office of Industry Relations at the university to identify research opportunities, stating, "We should form a council of professors and former officials to be more successful in our planning."
According to the public relations office of Amirkabir University of Technology, Dr. Alireza Rahai described the role of research and inquiry at Amirkabir University as very special during the ceremony for the appreciation and introduction of the new director of industry relations. He said, "In the 70-year history of the university, educational activities have usually been carried out in a specific process, and this trend continues. However, apart from the quality of these activities, today, research and inquiry activities have become the main and important functions of the university."
He further emphasized that we must address research activities at Amirkabir University as a very important indicator, asserting, "Our effort is to expand the university's research activities, as one of the factors for enhancing the status and development of Amirkabir University largely depends on research and inquiry activities."
The president of Amirkabir University of Technology stated that the overall research and inquiry activities of the university are divided into various areas within the Office of Industry Relations, the research affairs department, and others. "In my opinion, all these areas hold significant importance, so about 80 percent of my thoughts focus on which areas of research activities we have made progress in and what actions need to be taken."
Dr. Rahai added, "The Office of Industry Relations at Amirkabir University of Technology has done good work despite the difficulties in executing its programs and activities. However, it may be necessary to review the structure in this area to understand how different components of activities are allocated within the university."
According to this professor at Amirkabir University of Technology, there are certain tasks and activities that have been assigned to us that we carry out routinely, but we must identify opportunities and understand what opportunities exist in society so that we can pursue them. It seems that due to the high workload, less attention has been paid to this issue at the university.
The chancellor of Amirkabir University of Technology emphasized the need to form a team in the area of industry relations to specifically investigate the opportunities for collaboration with various industries and to define the methods of engagement. This is important because, under current conditions, organizations typically do not openly present their needs and projects; therefore, we must focus on identifying opportunities and needs.
Dr. Rahai stated that the research units at Amirkabir University can be a significant source of services for the university. He pointed out that Dr. Ahmadi, the former head of the Office of Industry Relations, achieved many successes during his management tenure, implementing very good initiatives in this field. He was always in search of solutions and ways to execute matters. Our managers should adopt this perspective and find a solution to every problem.
He continued by stating that in recent years, we have achieved successes in the activities of this office, and many operations have become organized, well-planned, and governed by frameworks and regulations.
The president of Amirkabir University of Technology assessed the role of the university's faculties in carrying out research contracts as significant and effective, emphasizing, “We have research vice-presidencies in these centers. Given that faculties usually have educational responsibilities, research activities occur alongside these tasks. However, the efforts and determination of research institutes should focus on conducting significant research activities.”
Dr. Rahai also continued, “Dr. Sharifi, the new head of the Office of Industry Relations at Amirkabir University, was one of the successful heads of the Oil Engineering Faculty during this period. In fact, this newly established faculty was elevated with Dr. Sharifi's assistance, leading to significant growth and a good standing for the Petroleum Engineering Faculty, as well as the establishment of well-equipped laboratories. Additionally, trust from the oil industry towards the Oil Engineering Faculty was developed.”
He stated, “We have always benefited from the presence of councils at Amirkabir University. We should form a council of professors and former officials to identify opportunities so we can be more successful in our planning.”
The chancellor of Amirkabir University of Technology also assessed the importance of streamlining operations and acting quickly, stating, “Work at the university must have a clear program. For example, if we present a program to the Office of Industry Relations, we should receive a response by a specific date. Therefore, we need to outline a clear plan in this office.”
Dr. Rahai noted that about 25% of our faculty members are active in industry relations, stating, “Out of approximately 500 faculty members at the university, about 110 are engaged in industry relations. We need to determine why the other approximately 400 faculty members do not participate in industrial activities. Accordingly, we should strive to encourage professors to become active in this area. Additionally, in the current promotion regulations, unlike in the past, the points for industry relations and executing industrial contracts cannot be substituted for one another, and these actions are mandatory.”
This professor at Amirkabir University of Technology emphasized, “We do not have much time in the area of industry relations; we need to accelerate and address our issues. Therefore, we must work hard to activate this capacity.”
He mentioned that there should be good communication regarding the importance of patent registration both domestically and internationally, stating, “This can be very effective in enhancing the university's standing. Therefore, there should be communication so that individuals are aware that the processes in this area have been streamlined and are not complex or difficult.”
Dr.Rahai pointed to Amirkabir University’s vision for signing industrial contracts with foreign countries and stated, “We must also activate opportunities for industry relations abroad.”
