Intelligent System for Authentication and Traceability of Iranian Handwoven Carpets Granted National Patent: A national invention in the field of emerging technologies and cultural heritage was registered with the contribution of Amirkabir University of Technology. According to the Public Relations Office of Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT), the project titled “Chamrosh: An Intelligent System for Registration, Tracking, and Authentication of Iranian Handwoven Carpets”, which began in 2018 at the Faculty of Computer Engineering, has resulted—after seven years of sustained research and development—in the registration of a national patent entitled “A System for Generating a Unique Fingerprint for Handwoven Carpets.” This invention has been officially registered under patent number 112823 at the Intellectual Property Center of theState Organization for Registration of Deeds and Properties of Iran, with Amirkabir University of Technology holding a 20% ownership share. The patented system has been developed with the aim of preserving the authenticity of Iranian handwoven carpets and combating forgery and imitation, representing a notable example of the integration of advanced digital technologies with Iran’s cultural heritage. Within this system, the unique characteristics of each carpet—such as knot patterns and color compositions—are analyzed using advanced algorithms to generate a distinct and non-reproducible digital fingerprint for every individual carpet. The project employs a combination of artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), image processing, and digital tokenization. The generated digital fingerprint, along with the carpet’s specifications and documentation, is stored on a blockchain-based infrastructure and forms the basis for issuing a digital ownership and authenticity certificate. This process enables reliable authentication, traceability, prevention of counterfeiting, and increased transparency in handwoven carpet transactions, reinforcing the position of Persian carpets as unique artistic assets. Project managers highlight that the Chamrosh functions as more than a singular innovation; viewing it as a step toward the digital transformation of Iran's handwoven carpet industry. The system introduces new models of value creation across the supply chain, sales, and investment within this authentic artisanal industry, and lays the groundwork for positioning exquisite Persian carpets as credible and robust investment instruments in the landscape of the emerging digital creative ecosystem." The project was implemented in collaboration with the Carpet Museum of Iran and with the support of the Innovation and Technology Office of the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade. Contributors to the project include Amirhossein Roshanzamir (Inventor, Adjunct Professor, and Researcher in Digital Transformation and Innovation at AUT), Mohammad Rahmati (Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing, AUT), Mehdi Shajari (Assistant Professor of Information Technology and Security, Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada), Soroush Ziaee-Nejad (PhD Candidate, University of Windsor, Canada), Shahin Mirzaei (FinTech Researcher and Senior Digital Banking Expert), and Mohammad Khakbazaan (Producer and Exporter of Handwoven Carpets). "The registration of this patent underscores the forward-looking and interdisciplinary vision of the Faculty of Computer Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology in integrating technological research with cultural heritage. This approach holds the potential to significantly elevate the domestic and international stature of authentic Persian carpets while transforming the fundamental processes of the production, trade, and export for this national art form.
