Visit of the Delegation of Librarians from Al-Furat Al-Awsat University of Iraq to the Central Library of Amirkabir University of Technology

A delegation of librarians and library officials from Al-Furat Al-Awsat University of Iraq visited the Central Library and several cultural centers of Amirkabir University of Technology with the aim of exchanging experiences and expanding international scientific and technological cooperation.

According to the Public Relations Office of Amirkabir University of Technology, the delegation, headed by Dr. Sahera Abdul Sahib, began its visit with a reception by Dr. Akbari, Vice-Chancellor for International Affairs, and Dr. Ashrafi, Head of the Information, Library and Publishing Center of Amirkabir University of Technology.

At the beginning of the program, Dr. Akbari presented a comprehensive report introducing the history, achievements, and scientific and research capacities of Amirkabir University of Technology. Subsequently, Dr. Ashrafi introduced the structure and facilities of the Central Library, modern library services, specialized engineering collections, and the ongoing digitization projects of the library.

During the visit, a commemorative gift bearing the signatures of the Chancellor of Amirkabir University of Technology, Dr. Akbari, and Dr. Ashrafi was presented to Dr. Sahera Abdul Sahib, Head of the Al-Furat Al-Awsat University delegation.

Dr. Sahera Abdul Sahib also expressed her appreciation for the hospitality and planning of Amirkabir University of Technology, introduced the libraries and scientific and research capacities of Al-Furat Al-Awsat University of Iraq, and emphasized the need to expand bilateral cooperation and benefit from the successful experiences of both sides.

The guest delegation then visited various sections of the Central Library of Amirkabir University of Technology, including specialized and group study halls, the user services and reference section, databases, the digital archive of theses, and the valuable books of the Treasury Library of the “Religious Studies and Humanities Group,” and became familiar with the methods of providing library services to the academic community of the university. At the end of this part of the program, a joint specialized meeting was held with the participation of the heads of the two centers, Dr. Ashrafi and Dr. Sahera Abdul Sahib, to review ways to expand scientific and library cooperation, and gifts were exchanged by both sides.

The program of the Iraqi delegation continued with a visit to the Malek Museum and Library. This visit was held with the aim of becoming familiar with cultural treasures, Iranian manuscripts, and the existing capacities in the field of preservation and dissemination of written heritage. This visit, which took place in a friendly and academic atmosphere, provided an opportunity for the exchange of views on topics such as the use of international databases, the development of digital library services, training in information literacy skills, resource sharing, and holding joint training courses. It was also decided that the necessary follow-ups for signing a memorandum of understanding between the two universities would be carried out in the near future.
