The Vice Chancellor for International Affairs at Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT) has highlighted the growing role of smart technologies and artificial intelligence in higher education, emphasizing the need to leverage these technologies to enhance educational quality, improve student services, and expand international academic engagement. She also announced a proposal to establish a National Secretariat for the Smart Internationalization Infrastructure of Higher Education at AUT.
According to the AUT Public Relations Office, during National Symposium on the Development and Smart Infrastructure of Internationalization in Iran’s universities Dr Somayeh Akbari, Vice Chancellor for International Affairs, noted that higher education is currently experiencing one of the most critical periods of transformation in its history. She also pointed that “Over past decades, universities primarily focused on expanding educational facilities, increasing admissions capacity, developing academic programs, and strengthening international relations. Today, however, alongside all these priorities, a new and highly influential factor has entered the equation—smart technologies, particularly artificial intelligence.”
She added that the question is no longer whether artificial intelligence will enter higher education, but rather how universities can effectively utilize this technology to improve the quality of education, enhance assessment processes, develop student services, and expand international academic collaboration.
