Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT) continues its transition toward an entrepreneurial, society-driven institution through the expansion of its Science and Technology Park. According to Dr. Malek Naderi, Head of the Park, strategic priorities in Artificial Intelligence, energy, and e-commerce—alongside the development of the Innovation District—are central to advancing AUT as a third- and fourth-generation university.
Dr. Naderi presented a report titled “Strategies and Performance of the AUT Science and Technology Park” during a University Council session at the Ibn Sina Technology Tower.
A Brief History of the Science and Technology Park:The Park’s foundations date back to 2000 with the establishment of incubation and entrepreneurship centers. Innovation centers were launched across faculties in 2020, followed by the creation of the university’s innovation zone. The Science and Technology Park was formally established in 2021, and the AUT Innovation District was ratified in 2025.
Key Initiatives and Strategic Planning:In 2025, the Park restructured its framework, implemented operational budgeting, expanded company admissions, and enhanced revenue streams. A 3-to-5-year strategic plan was developed around five pillars: strengthening the innovation district, achieving administrative and financial autonomy, modernizing structures and processes, expanding service value chains, and reinforcing national and international networks.
Major Projects: Two flagship initiatives, "Redesigning the University’s Innovation Ecosystem" and "Developing the Innovation District", anchor current efforts. Key programs include the launch of the “Amirkabir Club,” advanced revenue models, and expanded international engagement.
The Park in Numbers:In 2025, the Park hosts 227 tech units, including 75 startups, 44 growth-stage companies, and 108 mature enterprises. These entities have collectively generated approximately 2,300 jobs, with 78 companies holding official knowledge-based status.Total projected revenue for 2025 stands at 21 trillion Tomans, with strong activity in energy management, oil and gas equipment, and construction technologies. Notably, the Park now accounts for 29 percent of the university’s dedicated income, reflecting its growing financial impact.
Special Measures and Support Programs during the Imposed War: To ensure business continuity during the Imposed War, the Park established a specialized support council, implemented rent discounts, and provided financial subsidies for internet-based companies. Ongoing risk assessments have enabled targeted support for affected enterprises.
Toward a Society-Driven University:Dr. Naderi emphasized the importance of evolving beyond traditional education and research models toward value creation and societal impact. In this framework, faculty members serve as innovation leaders, transforming research outcomes into products and services. Entrepreneurship—and even business failure—is viewed as an integral part of academic and technological advancement.
