Amirkabir University of Technology Inaugurates the Office for Science and Technology Exchange of the Islamic World (STEP-AUT Office)

The inauguration ceremony for the Office for Science and Technology Exchange of the Islamic World (STEP-AUT Office) was held at Amirkabir University of Technology.
According to the Public Relations Office of Amirkabir University of Technology, the ceremony was attended by and featured remarks from Dr. Abbas Soroush, Chancellor of Amirkabir University of Technology; Dr. Ehsan Ghabool, Head of the Center for International Scientific Cooperation at the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology; Dr. Rasoul Dinarvand, Member of the Board of Directors of the Mostafa (PBUH) Science and Technology Foundation; Hojjat al-Islam Rouhollah Rajabi, Head of the Office of the Representative of the Supreme Leader at the University; Dr. Somayeh Akbari, Vice-Chancellor for International Affairs at Amirkabir University of Technology; and a number of other university and scientific officials.
The STEP-AUT Office aims to strengthen the network of communication among academics, researchers, and scientific centers in Islamic countries, facilitate the exchange of knowledge and technology, support the formation and development of joint scientific and technological projects, and create a sustainable platform for synergy among the scientific capacities of the Islamic world.
Dr. Ehsan Ghabool, Head of the Center for International Scientific Cooperation at the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, said that interest among various countries in scientific cooperation with Iran has increased.
Referring to the “Ramadan War,” he said that the positive and constructive approach adopted by various countries has created favorable conditions for expanding scientific cooperation. He noted that during recent visits to Turkey and Belarus, the willingness of these countries to cooperate with Iran was evident, adding that the world is currently witnessing a technology war.
Ghabool emphasized the importance of scientific diplomacy and said that the establishment of the Science and Technology Exchange Office at Amirkabir University of Technology could contribute to strengthening scientific relations and expanding international cooperation.
He stressed the importance of synergy, convergence, and networking among scientific capacities, noting that the Center for International Scientific Cooperation is pursuing initiatives in this area.
He also referred to the Virtual University of the Islamic World at Shahid Beheshti University, which operates under the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and said that efforts are being made to develop mechanisms for greater cooperation among Islamic countries.
Ghabool further noted that Ferdowsi University of Mashhad has developed an application in support of the country's scientific diplomacy efforts, covering the educational, research, technological, cultural, and knowledge-based economy dimensions.
He added that a comprehensive national system for scientific diplomacy, based on approximately 120 indicators and equipped with a dashboard, is being developed to support data-driven governance in this field.
Referring to Amirkabir University of Technology as a pioneer in scientific diplomacy, he said that the concept of a “network hub” could serve as a platform for connecting scientific and technological capacities. He also pointed to initiatives such as the development of smart cities and super-applications as examples of areas where networking and convergence can be strengthened.
Ghabool stated that the Center for International Scientific Cooperation is ready to cooperate with Amirkabir University of Technology in advancing these initiatives. He added that Amirkabir University of Technology, together with the Mostafa (PBUH) Science and Technology Foundation, is prepared to advance the development of emerging technologies in the field of scientific diplomacy.
Hojjat al-Islam Rouhollah Rajabi, Head of the Office of the Representative of the Supreme Leader at Amirkabir University of Technology, congratulated the audience on the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), noting that Amirkabir University of Technology has played an active role in positive and constructive initiatives in science and technology.
He said that the inauguration of the STEP-AUT Office coincides with the Mostafa (PBUH) Prize and emphasized the importance of knowledge and reason in Islamic thought.
Referring to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the “Absolute Intellect” and “Absolute Knowledge,” he stated that within the framework of pure Islamic thought, both knowledge and reason hold a particularly important position, and there is no conflict between the two.
He explained that, unlike certain approaches that reject rational propositions when they appear to conflict with religious teachings, Islamic thought does not recognize such a contradiction between reason and religious teachings.
Dr. Rasoul Dinarvand, Member of the Board of Directors of the Mostafa (PBUH) Science and Technology Foundation, said that the Mostafa Foundation is a non-governmental scientific and technological organization whose mission includes building networks among Muslim scientists around the world.
He stated that the establishment of the STEP-AUT Office marks the first such cooperation, with a leading university in the Islamic world, Amirkabir University of Technology, establishing an office of this kind.
Dinarvand added that, with the support of the Mostafa (PBUH) Science and Technology Foundation, Amirkabir University of Technology seeks to expand scientific and technological cooperation with universities in the Islamic world, universities in Islamic countries, and Muslim scientists around the world.
