Amirkabir University of Technology Outlines Goals and Programs of the Islamic World Science and Technology Exchange Office

Amirkabir University of Technology's Vice-Chancellor for International Affairs outlined the goals and programs of the Islamic World Science and Technology Exchange Office (STEP-AUT Office), stating that the office has been established to facilitate structured access to the network of laureates of the Mustafa Prize, expand academic exchange, strengthen scientific diplomacy, and translate scientific interactions into tangible outcomes.
Dr. Somayeh Akbari noted that the 10th Science and Technology Exchange Program (STEP) brought together approximately 72 professors and scientists from 34 countries. Dr. Akbari identified four key roles for the university within this network: serving as a network hub across 58 countries of the Islamic world, expanding academic exchange, strengthening the university's position within the science and technology ecosystem, and developing agreements and attracting international investment.
Dr. Akbari added that the office's programs include networking and matchmaking, the exchange and rotation of experts with a focus on less-developed countries, capacity building and empowerment through training and seasonal schools, incentive and scholarship mechanisms, policymaking and foresight, and transforming scientific interactions into technological and commercial projects. In this regard, approximately 40 university professors have expressed their willingness to participate in the matchmaking program with the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST).
According to Dr. Akbari, the office will also be responsible for network development, volunteer management, monitoring scientific activities, program coordination, and facilitating connections among faculties. The data-driven platform to be provided by the Mustafa Prize Foundation will enable monitoring of researchers, grants, and projects, as well as the management of calls and scientific activities.
Dr. Akbari emphasized that the establishment of the office has been approved as part of the university's formal structure by the university's Board of Directors, and that the necessary infrastructure has been provided. Dr. Akbari further noted that, following the designation of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology as Amirkabir University of Technology's area of responsibility within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the office can play a role in identifying talented researchers and developing scientific and technological collaborations.
In conclusion, Dr. Akbari identified positioning the university as a dynamic node in the Islamic world's innovation ecosystem, expanding its international engagement, improving its global rankings and reputation, establishing a successful data-driven institutional platform, and developing a national model among the key expected outcomes of the office.
