Students of Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT) secured top positions in the third edition of the national, problem-oriented “Rahi Sho” Competition, presenting projects in artificial intelligence, water recycling in drilling operations, and crude oil processing optimization.
According to AUT’s Public Relations Office, Saman Zeinali, a Ph.D. student in Chemical Engineering, and Dr. Esmaeil Farmani, a Ph.D. graduate of AUT in Chemical Engineering, won first place in the competition as members of the “Varesh” team. Their project, titled “Design of a Water Recycling System Based on Advanced Membrane Filtration and Membrane Technologies to Reduce Water Consumption in Drilling Operations,” was developed to optimize water consumption in industrial operations and reduce the withdrawal of water from natural resources.
The project focuses on treating and recycling wastewater generated during drilling operations through membrane technologies and advanced filtration processes. Water reuse, reduced freshwater consumption, and improved industrial wastewater management are among the key benefits of the proposed system.
Abolfazl Dibaji, a Ph.D. student in Computer Engineering at AUT and team leader of “Pars One,” also secured first place with his project titled “Fraud Detection in Car Damage Images Using Artificial Intelligence Models.” In addition, he received the “Shahid Sajad Zebarjadi Special Award” in the competition’s special Artificial Intelligence category.
The project involved the design and implementation of a system that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning models to detect fraudulent claims through vehicle damage images. Improving the accuracy and speed of damage assessment and reducing human error were identified as the main objectives of the system.
Mohammad Ali Kavianpour, a Ph.D. student in Chemical Engineering at AUT, along with members of the “Petro Paydar” team, secured third place in this edition of the competition with their project titled “Engineering and Feasibility Study of a Mini-Refinery for Crude Oil Processing Optimization.”
The third edition of the national, problem-oriented “Rahi Sho” Competition was held with the support of the Daneshmand Research and Development Institute and the National Elites Foundation, under the Shahid Babaei Initiative, along with other supporting organizations.
The closing ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Niroo Research Institute, with the attendance of several officials, including Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran; Hossein Simaei Sarraf, Minister of Science, Research and Technology; Hossein Dehghan, President of the Mostazafan Foundation; and Mohammad Ali Zolfigol, former Minister of Science, Research and Technology.
