Saltwater Desalination by Capacitive Deionization Method by AUT Researchers

 | Post date: 2020/05/8 |
According to public relations of Amirkabir University of Technology, Mohammad Mehdi Kazemzadeh, an MSc chemical engineering student in process separation branch and the executor of “surface absorbance improvement of Carbone composite to be used in water desalination” project said:" We have been able to execute this method one step further than laboratory schemes and to complete saltwater desalination.
As he said, this system can purify water, and its released energy which can also be harvested. One of the other advantages of this system is being modular, meaning that the client can pass a different amount of current during the use of the system and decrease the salty impurities in water based on their needs.
It's worth mentioning that this project was started in 2013 by Ph.D. student; Sara Madani, focusing on producing supercapacitor. In the last two years it has developed by concentrating on producing Capacitive Deionization systems (CDI) in advance materials laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Kavous Falamaki, full professor of chemical engineering department of Amirkabir University of Technology.
