THE MSC PROGRAM IN MATERIALS ENGINEERING

The MSc program of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering is designed to be 2 years or 4 semesters. The program has two sections of education and research, and includes a total of 36 credits. The Faculty of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering of Amirkabir University of Technology offers four areas of study under its MSc program, which includes extractive metallurgy, characterization and selection of metallic materials, welding and corrosion.

Extractive Metallurgy

The aim of this program is to train specialists who are experts in training and research in the area of metal extraction, who are able to examine and solve problems in the metal production industries and who are efficient enough in technology transfer. Considering the importance and expansion of metal production industries in the country, including steel, copper, lead, zinc, aluminum and also ferroalloys production, the MSc program of extractive metallurgy is established in this field by examining the scientific basics, technology of metal production processes and research.

Characterization and Selection of Metallic Materials

Identification and selection of engineering materials is a collection of theoretical courses, advanced laboratory courses, and research projects, which are planned for designning and optimizing engineering materials and research into materials’ properties and manufacturing methods relationship. The purpose of this program is to train the required manpower in research, industrial and higher educational centers.

Welding

The MSc program of welding is a collection of theoretical courses, advanced laboratory courses and research projects, which is designed with the aim of training specialists in the field of joining various materials, including ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, alloys thereof and non-metals for industries, research and training centers. The purpose of this program is to train an individual who is able to perform the desired tasks as favorable as possible by increasing his/her technical knowledge, imprioving his/her understanding power and performing more analysis based on specific principles (international standards) and also to be able to meet the needs of country's educational and industrial centers involved in welding and its side issues.

Corrosion

Corrosion engineering is the use of science and technology to prevent or control corrosion loss. The purpose of this program is to train engineers who are able to maintain the corrosion rate of metallic materials and structures below the allowable limit by using methods such as selecting or designing corrosion-resistant materials, engineering design, utilizing inhibitors, applying cathodic/anodic protection, and using appropriate coatings.
