Department Overview

Nearly 95 percent of the world trade is carried by various vessels or ships. They are also instrumental to exploit different marine resources. On the other hand, investment in offshore oil and gas is an essential part of the strategic plan in Iran's economy. Accordingly, the coastlines and waterways must be kept safe, clean, and secure. For all these reasons and considering the fact that Iran possesses 2700 kilometers coastlines, marine technologies and applications have become vital elements for this country.
     Marine technologies and sciences have experienced a rapid growth after the Islamic Revolution, and Department of Maritime Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology as the first faculty of maritime engineering in the country has been a major contributor to this growth. Department of Maritime Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology is a pioneer in providing valuable services and supports to the maritime industries by training highly educated marine experts. Many of the countries marine industries and organizations are managed and run by key personnel who are the graduates of this department. Ship and offshore construction, repair yards, ports and maritime originations, classification societies, offshore oil and gas industries, naval military forces as well as other educational institutions in the country are among the beneficiaries of the expertise received by the graduates of this department.
The department offers Bachelor of Science program in Maritime Engineering, Master of Science programs in Naval Architecture-Ship Structure and Naval Architecture-Ship Hydromechanics, and PhD program in Maritime Engineering. This department admits 45 BSc students, 40 MSc students and 10 PhD students each year. All programs have the highest educational standards. Department of Maritime Engineering has 14 full time faculties with different expertise and disciplines who are engaged in state of the art research.
