Specifications:
Device model: Spectrum GX
Manufacturer: Perkin Elmer
Country of manufacture: USA
Name of software used for analysis: Spectrum

Description of test
Almost all covalently bonded compounds, whether organic or inorganic, absorb different frequencies of electromagnetic radiation in the infrared region of the spectrum. IR spectroscopy is a well-known method for identifying materials based on the vibration of the atoms that make up molecules. This method is used as a powerful and developed method for determining the structure and measurement of chemical species. This method is also mainly used to identify organic compounds.

 Services available:
  • Study of molecular structure and identification of materials
  • Determining the functional groups and detecting the functionalization of the sample after the functionalization process
  • Study of surface uniformity
  • Investigation of polymerization reactions, tactics, branching, orientation and arrangement of polymer molecules and study of polymer blends
  • Study of sintering, degradation, decomposition and oxidation of materials
  • Study of the presence of crystallization regions and the existence of hydrogen bonding
  • Research on the impact of the environment on materials
  • Quality control and process control
Sample preparation
Samples are solid or liquid. Samples should be thin and slightly thick. If the sample is thick, the percentage of IR passage decreases.
Powder samples: About 5 to 15 mg with about 400 mg of KBr is taken as a tablet.

Granular samples: They are prepared into a film, either dissolved in a solvent or placed between two glasses and then melted on a hot plate.
Liquid samples: A drop of liquid is placed between two KBr or NaCl tablets.

Standards used
There are various standards for examining the structure and properties of polymers and their additives by FTIR, such as the following:
* FTIR ASTM D5477 standard
* ASTM D2124 polyvinyl chloride review standard
* ASTM D2702-94 Rubber Review Standard
* ASTM D5576 polyolefin structure standard
* Standard of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer ASTM D3594
* Tri-Oxane Polymer Testing Copier Standard 16 (1997)
* Investigation of polybutadiene microstructure
