Morteza Asmani, a PhD student in Petroleum Exploration Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology and the project manager of "Using the Structural Properties of Asphalt Molecules in Investigating the Integrity of Oil Tanks", stated: This paper was developed by the National Iran and South Oilfields Company and 6 ISI articles have been written on this project so far. The findings of this study have revealed that the molecular structures of petroleum asphalt in various zones of a reservoir have very subtle differences. By examining these differences, the degree of cohesion of a reservoir can be assessed. Also, reservoir zones can be identified.
Dr. Ahmad Reza Rabbani, Amirkabir University of Technology Professor of Petroleum Engineering, and the head of the research team of this study, discussing the implementation process of this project, stated: “In this project, the oil asphaltene compounds of a number of Iranian oil reservoirs were used as valuable particles to obtain fingerprints of crude oil.
