Specification:

Device Name: Vapor Pressure Osmometer
Device model: K-7000
Manufacturer: KNAUER
Country of manufacture: Germany

This device is used to determine the molecular mass of polymers in aqueous or organic solutions, as well as accurate measurement of osmolality of physiological fluids. Vapor-pressure oscillometers indirectly obtain the vapor pressure by determining the point at which condensation and evaporation are in equilibrium (dew point). The osmolality can be determined by measuring the dew point temperature of the solution and comparing it with the dew point temperature in pure solvent.

Description of test:
This device is used to determine the molecular mass of polymers in aqueous or organic solutions, as well as accurate measurement of osmolality of physiological fluids. To determine the molecular mass of materials up to 500 g / mol weight, a benzyl calibrator is used and to determine the molecular weight of polymers, samples with narrow molecular mass distribution are used for calibration. Vapor-pressure oscillometers indirectly obtain the vapor pressure by determining the point at which condensation and evaporation are in equilibrium (dew point). The determination of osmolality by these osmometers is not directly related to the change in vapor pressure (in millimeters of mercury); Rather, it is related to the decrease in dew point temperature of the pure solvent due to the decrease in solvent vapor pressure due to the addition of solutes. When solutes are added to the solvent, the vapor pressure of the solution decreases due to a reduction in chemical potential. The lower tendency of the solvent to evaporate is a direct result of the molecular interactions between the solvent particles and the particles of the body dissolved in it. This leads to an increase in temperature due to the increase in solvent density. The osmolality can be determined by measuring the dew point temperature of the solution and comparing it with the dew point temperature in pure solvent.
