Course Title                Continuum Mechanics

Number of Credits       3             Prerequisite

Course Description:
This course gives an introduction to the theory of continuum mechanics from a mathematical viewpoint. In continuum mechanics, matter is represented by average quantities, defined in a continuous region of space, but not as discrete particles. Principles of continuum mechanics can be applied not only to solid materials, but also fluids, gases, and any other kind of materials, assuming that they are continuous.

Course Topics:
The following subjects will be discussed in this course:
Definition of a continuous media
Math concepts needed in continuum mechanics
Kinematics of continua
Kinetics of Continua
Different measures of stress
Conservation laws, 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics
Constitutive equations
Continuum Mechanics application in Biomechanics
