Production of New Generation Solvents Used in Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Industries

 | Post date: 2021/10/20 |
Researchers at the Chemical Engineering department of the Amirkabir University of Technology have introduced a solvent used for conventional separation in oil and petrochemical industries using natural ingredients that are cost-effective for the industry. Hamed Sedaghatzadegan Esfahani, an Amirkabir University of Technology graduate with a master’s in chemical engineering (a sub-discipline of separation processes at the Amirkabir University of Technology) and the project manager, stated that “This research sought to achieve a new solvent as a replacement for the dangerous organic solvents prevalent in the industry and use it to separate aliphatic from aromatic substances”. The production of a solvent from natural and edible materials that is much more cost-effective compared to the common organic solvents and ionic liquids has attracted significant attention since the latter are highly volatile, toxic, and flammable.
Dr. Gholamreza Pazuki and Dr. Ali Khoshsima, faculty members at Amirkabir University of Technology and Hakim Sabzevari University, were the supervising professors of this project. Moreover, the results of this research were published in the Molecular Liquids Journal and Journal of Separation Science and Engineering.
