AUT'S International Day

Amirkabir University of Technology marked a significant milestone by hosting its first-ever International Day on Sunday, May 18, 2025—a new initiative launched by the Office of Vice-Chancellor for International Affairs to celebrate global collaboration and highlight achievements in international education and research.
During the event, Professor Alireza Rahai, Chancellor of AUT, outlined the university’s strategic focus on three major pillars for advancing its international agenda:
  • Establishing a Cultural Exchange Center for international students
  • Empowering the university’s scientific diplomacy capacity
  • Promoting the implementation of joint academic programs with foreign institutions
In his opening remarks, Professor Rahai expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine, Gaza, and Lebanon, recognizing their suffering amid ongoing regional conflicts.
He further emphasized AUT’s commitment to expanding scientific cooperation with neighboring and Islamic countries, citing the recent Iran-Iraq Joint Scientific Week in Karbala as a key example. During this event, AUT signed MoUs with prominent Iraqi institutions including the University of Baghdad and University of Najaf, covering areas such as student exchange and collaborative research in AI, aerospace, and other emerging technologies.
AUT’s international collaborations are also being extended to Turkey, Oman, Russia, China and several European countries, underlining the university's role as a hub for regional innovation and cross-border research.
Launch of AI Assistant for International Services
In a major digital transformation initiative, AUT unveiled its new AI-powered International Affairs Assistant during the event. As explained by Dr. Roohollah Bagherzadeh, Director of Scientific and International Cooperation, this smart tool will serve three core functions:
  • Assisting international students with 24/7 multilingual support across academic, consular, and welfare services via mobile application
  • Providing staff and students with AI-based guidance on institutional rules, research proposals, and international opportunities
  • Facilitating seamless communication in multiple languages, addressing a key challenge in supporting a diverse student body representing over 18 nationalities
This initiative aligns with AUT’s broader strategy to update its international infrastructure and meet the evolving needs of today students and faculty.
Recognizing Excellence in International Achievement
As part of the ceremony, AUT honored its top-performing faculty and students for excellence in international education and research. Three distinguished faculty members were presented with the Tehran Polytechnic International Ambassador Award for their outstanding leadership in global engagement:
  • Dr. Mahnaz Abdollah Shamshirsaz
  • Dr. Mohammad Jafar Kermani
  • Dr. Gevork Gharehpetian
Additionally, 20 professors were recognized as the university’s leading international scholars, and eight international students received awards for academic excellence.
AUT also acknowledged its top-performing faculties and research centers in international activities over the past year:
  • Faculty of Electrical Engineering (1st place)
  • Faculty of Computer Engineering (2nd place)
  • Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science (3rd place)
  • Research Center for Advanced Technologies (Top Research Center)
A Promising Future for Global Collaboration
International Day at AUT is set to become an annual flagship event, serving as a platform to reflect on achievements, recognize excellence, and build momentum for greater international engagement across all academic and research domains.
AUT continues to advance its vision of becoming a regional leader in innovation and global partnership, contributing to the scientific progress of Iran and its partner nations.
