Amirkabir University of Technology has once again demonstrated its academic excellence by securing third place among Iranian universities and first place among the country’s technical universities.
According to the university’s Public Relations Office, in the latest edition of the 2026 Shanghai Ranking, Amirkabir University of Technology maintained its presence among the world’s top universities, ranking in the 801–900 range.
Based on the results published for 2026, AUT not only maintained its position among Iran’s leading universities but also achieved third place nationally. Furthermore, compared with other technology-focused institutions, the university ranked first among Iranian universities of technology, reflecting its continued academic quality and scientific standing, particularly in the fields of engineering and technology.
The Shanghai Ranking, first published in 2003, is recognized as one of the world’s most prestigious and rigorous university ranking systems. Its annual assessment evaluates key indicators including the quality of education, quality of faculty, research output, and per-capita academic performance.
In the 2026 ranking, as in previous years, Harvard University, Stanford University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from the United States secured the first, second, and third positions globally, respectively.
In this edition of the ranking, a total of 55 universities from 10 Muslim-majority countries were included among the world’s top 1,000 universities. Saudi Arabia and Turkey, with 14 universities each, recorded the highest representation among Muslim-majority countries, followed by Iran and Egypt, with six universities each.
