Design and Construction of Assistant Robot for Beating Heart Surgery

Assistant Robot for Beating Heart Surgery was built in the Robotics Research Laboratory of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Amirkabir University of Technology.
The project is part of the international cooperation programs of the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, which has been carried out with the cooperation of Prof. Mahdi Tavakoli of the University of Alberta.
The robot can simultaneously move with the heart beats to help the surgeon in precise surgery and pave the ground for him to see the images more easily. The surgeon can remotely guide the robot using a joystick to perform subtle and precise surgery.
This assistant robot can imitate all heart movements and move forward and backward with the heart. In addition to cardiac, it can also be used in thoracic and abdominal surgeries. The device is made in two versions, the older version being larger and the newer version smaller.
Each robot has 5 degrees of freedom and the two robotic arms together can have up to 10 degrees of freedom. More than thirty articles have been published about it so far.
The device has successfully completed its research process and can be used at the clinical stage if it is financially supported.
