Researchers at Amirkabir University of Technology have designed and implemented a project to increase the capacity of solar cells, dye sensitive solar cells (DSSC).
An Amirkabir University of Technology PhD student, Pedram Manafi, and project manager of "Effects of PVDF-HFP/PEO-Based Gel Electrolyte Microstructure on Graphene Nanoparticles Regarding Electrical Efficiency of Dye Sensitive Solar Cells (DSSC)" stated: “With the help of this research and utilizing consumables, in addition to increasing the efficiency of the device, the stability of the device has also increased by about 80%.”
He said that the choice of polymer is of special importance in the preparation of polymer electrolytes because the physical & chemical structure of the polymer plays a decisive role in improving the efficiency of light to electricity conversion. Polyethylene oxide (PEO) and vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene (PVDF-HFP) are among the most efficient for solar cell electrolytes. Utilizing graphene nanoparticles also enhance the efficiency of the device.
Power supply for houses through smart windows, power supply for some satellite components and equipment used in aerospace industry, power supply for the city (on a small scale) by photovoltaic power plants, power generation for small boats and cars are some of the applications of this project.
The project advisors were Dr. Nazokdast, Dr. Sadighi & Dr. Karimi.
