A New Scientific Solution to Make Hepatitis B Vaccine

Researchers at AUT proposed a new solution to make hepatitis B vaccine in collaboration with the institute Pastor of Iran.
Fatemeh Rezaii, a Ph.D. student in biomedical engineering with the sub-discipline of biomaterials and the project manager of “production and evaluation of polymer silk-based Nano-adjuvants containing hepatitis B antigen”, stated that “Regarding the protein-based medicine delivery systems, silk fibroin is a useful natural polymer used to release peptides and proteins. This study revealed that silk fibroin Nano-particles can be proposed as a Nano-adjuvant for the more effective development of vaccine formulas given their features such as biodegradability, biocompatibility, and the ability to release antigen”.
Dr. Hamid Keshavri, a faculty member at the Amirkabir University of Technology, and Dr. Mohammadali Shokrgozar, a faculty member at institute Pastor of Iran, are the supervising professors of this project. In addition, Dr. Mehdi Farrokhi and Dr. Delaram Doroud, faculty members at the institute Pastor of Iran, are advising committee members in the mentioned project.
Moreover, the results of this project were published in the Journal of Biomaterials Science (Impact Factor= 6.183) in 2021.
