Researchers at Amirkabir University of Technology have developed polyurethane with new mechanical properties for industrial and medical applications. Mr. Iman Sahebi Joybari, the executor of this research project, said: Polyurethanes are among the engineering polymers that have received a lot of attention in the past few decades due to their potential properties in elastomers, foams, adhesives and biological materials. With global growth, this polymeric material has the highest added value among all polymers.
This researcher referred to the creative idea of this project and its relative advantages and said: In this study, using polyol mixture, synthetic control and fuzzy separation with various tools, especially rheological tools were researched and by controlling the microstructure, the final properties of the product were improved for various applications. So much so that in equal conditions, compared to foreign models such as Bayer, BASF and DOW, the improvement was about twice as high. For example, the strain rate at the breakpoint of the foreign samples mentioned is at most 700%; however, among the synthetic samples obtained from this study the tensile strength was up to 1400%.
He added: "with the application of the synthesized samples in the biological sector, toxicity analysis (MTT) was taken from the hard part of diisocyanate (HDI) and polyL (PCL-PTMG) and fortunately the successful results of this analysis showed they are biocompatible and can be used in medical fields such as heart stenting.”
This project has been executed by Mohammad Masoud Mirhosseini and Iman Sahebi Joybari under the guidance of Vahid Haddadi Asl (faculty member of the Faculty of Polymer and Color Engineering, Amirkabir University of Technology), which resulted in the publication of 8 ISI articles in Q1 journals, 5 articles in The International Conference (Nano Structure Sharif) and a patent.
